Dermal Fillers for Facial Rejuvenation
What are dermal fillers?
As the skin ages, it loses collagen and fat. This causes the skin to sag and develop wrinkles and lines. Hyaluronic acid can help to reduce the signs of aging by moisturizing the skin and returning its elasticity and tone.
Hydrafill is a non-animal, natural hyaluronic acid implant which is injected into the skin. Using these dermal fillers for line reduction, skin becomes smooth and facial lines plumped out as the product works with the body's own hyaluronic acid to reduce signs of aging.
Are dermal fillers a safe anti-aging treatment?
Dermal fillers integrate with the surrounding tissue, allowing free passage of oxygen and hormones. This results in natural, healthy-looking facial skin. Over time the fillers are broken down by natural biological processes, and removed from the body. Dr Gilani only uses dermal fillers which have been approved by the US Federal Drug Agency, which means the products have undergone rigourous testing, for example Restylane and Hydrafill.
Where can dermal fillers be used?
- Eyes - to smooth crow's feet
- Brow - smooth frown lines between the eyes
- Mouth - smooth vertical lines on the top lip
- Nasal lines - to plump out the deep lines from the nose to corner of the lips
- Lip enhancement - fuller, pouting lips; or on the lip/skin border for a subtler look.
What does this rejuvenation treatment involve?
At the first consultation, the doctor will discuss your medical history and your expectations of the fillers' cosmetic effect. If this treatment is not suitable for you, your doctor will discuss this with you and offer alternative wrinkle reduction treatments (such as botulinum toxin or Botox©).
The filler is injected with a very fine needle just under the skin. To eliminate discomfort, a dental block with local anaesthetic will be given to numb the treatment area. The whole process may take around 30 minutes.
How long do the anti-aging effects last?
Most dermal fillers last between 6 and 12 months. This can depend on lifestyle, skin type or age.
Are there any side effects?
After treatment, skin may be inflamed and tender around the injection site. This normally resolves within 24-48 hours. There may be temporary lumpiness at the injection site. Allergic reaction to this dermal treatment can occur, but this is very rare.
Can anyone have dermal fillers?
Treatment should be avoided if the skin is inflamed or infected, or if you are pregnant or breast-feeding. If you are prone to cold sores it is recommended that you use an anti-herpes cream to reduce the likelihood of an outbreak.
